Message from the Head of Department

Dear Students, Esteemed Academics, and Valued Industry Partners,

The roots of our department date back to an agreement signed in 1991 between the governments of the Republic of Türkiye and the Federal Republic of Germany. Established in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under the name “Business Informatics in German,” our department set out with the vision of becoming a pioneer in its field in Türkiye. This long-standing heritage remains one of our greatest strengths today.

In 2020, our department was renamed “Management Information Systems,” and in the same year, we launched our English-language program. Today, we proudly continue to distinguish ourselves as the only Management Information Systems department among public universities in Türkiye offering programs in both German and English.

Our core mission has remained unchanged since the day we were founded: to educate professionals who can build strong and innovative bridges between the business world and information technologies. In line with this mission, our students gain a solid foundation in key business disciplines such as accounting, finance, and marketing, while also developing expertise in fundamental areas of computer science, including algorithms, programming, data structures, and database systems.

However, in a world where digital transformation is advancing at an unprecedented pace, mastering the fundamentals alone is no longer sufficient. With this understanding, we continuously update our curriculum and enrich it with modern technologies in order to respond to the evolving expectations of both industry and the future. Today, our programs encompass some of the most critical fields of our time, including Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, and Digital Transformation Strategies. Our goal is to ensure that our graduates become not only the professionals of today, but also the technology leaders and strategists of tomorrow.

Our distinguished academic staff, who actively participate in national and international projects and conduct pioneering research particularly in areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, are among the strongest pillars of this dynamic educational environment.

We aim to equip our students not only with technical and managerial competencies, but also with a global perspective. Through our Erasmus agreements with numerous European countries, particularly Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Poland, our students have access to valuable international experiences. With a grant acceptance rate of approximately 80%, these opportunities open the door to a truly international academic journey.

Our graduates continue to make us proud by taking on key roles such as business analysts, data scientists, project managers, software developers, and IT consultants at leading national and international companies. Their achievements are the clearest reflection of the quality, strength, and vision of our department.

As the Department of Management Information Systems, we remain firmly committed to educating highly qualified, innovative, and ethically responsible leaders who will help shape the digital age, drawing strength from our well-established heritage and looking confidently toward the future.

Sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Deniz Herand
